Metamorphosis, Part IIII

Ah-- so you wish to see. The voice bellowed through the fairy’s mind.

Fairie's voice again shook from the sound of the voice, but this time not as much.

First, you must learn to hear. The voice went on. Only then will you learn what it means to truly see.

How do you hear me? The fairy thought, for it it was then that she realized she had never once opened her mouth to speak and never, not ever, had she made a sound. And where are you coming from? Spider-like chills crawled through her body.

For long moments fairy did not move. She felt statue, her limbs so frozen she wondered if she had turned into porcelain and if she dared move, would she break? If she dared move, would her body crack and crumble into millions pieces, only to sink into the mud-earth, never to be found.

The roses will miss me very much, she thought. Still frozen, fairy remembered her wings had been stolen, she couldn’t fly back to her roses anyway. She was stuck in this no-light world, unable to get out. Oh, if only I could turn into porcelain, shatter and sink into the mud. At least then I’d make it out of this terrible and frightening world. She thought.

It was then that the fairy began to hear it. Chirping birds. The loud, big belly buzzing of cicadas song. The trees leaves rustling from the wind. She was surrounded by a cacophony of sounds, some of it quite musical. Has it sounded like this the whole time? Fairy wondered.

Hhmm, Fairy thought. My Enchanted Forrest…
