Metamorphosis, Part III
Fairy noticed she felt very different in her body. Her body felt heavier… as though it were not supported by the grace of her wings, as though she were limited to the laws of gravity.
Fairy made a leap into the air in effort to flutter up into the dark and fly away. She longed to fly back to the comfort of her pink roses, or at least to fly somewhere with light. Instead, fairy’s leap brought her only mere moments in the air until she tumbled back down to the mud-earth below.
What… how… Crumpled on the ground, fairy felt her heart shutter. Why didn’t I fly!? She wondered as she wrapped her muddy arms around her body, searching for her delicate wings. Her hands met instead sharp jagged back-bones. My wings are… Fairies heart clenched deeper. Gone… Her whole heart gasped.
All alone, wingless and muddy in this strange, dark place, the little fairy-turned-girl felt cold wet drops begin to slide down her cheeks as she burst into tears.
Where did my wings go!? She wondered as she sobbed. And why is it so dark!? I wish I could see something, anything! Fairy thought through her cold-thick-icy endless globs of tears.
